Event Offers a New Way to Explore Nonprofit’s Mission and Win Prizes

SEPTEMBER 26, 2024 – Goodwill of the Heartland’s Helms Career Center in Burlington, Iowa has scheduled its first Information Scavenger Hunt for Friday, Oct. 11, between 1 and 5 p.m. This family-friendly, interactive event is open to all ages. Participants are encouraged to begin their hunt at any time during the event.

The Information Scavenger Hunt encompasses the Burlington Goodwill Store as well as the Career Center, which share a building at 165 W. Burlington Ave. The Career Center entrance is located on the opposite side of the building from the donation drive-up.

“Too often we learn local residents are unaware of the valuable programs and services Goodwill offers free of charge,” said Employment Skills Training Manager Jodine Berghaus. “We offer a variety of job training courses, including professional certification programs. We help people search for jobs, polish their resume, prepare for interviews and so much more. Our hope is that this event will inform our neighbors about what is available.”

Goodwill will also use the event to introduce the public to Edna Lofthus, who recently joined the organization as Lead Career Services Advisor for the region.

“With every role I’ve taken on, my focus has always been on fostering growth and development, both for individuals and the community at large,” said Lofthus, who has a background in human resources as well as instruction and previously served as a Spanish interpreter. “I am committed to making a meaningful impact and am excited about the opportunity to contribute to Goodwill’s mission.”

Participants can join the hunt, win prizes, and shop at Burlington’s finest Halloween Headquarters. Along the way they will learn new information about Goodwill and better understand how the organization supports job seekers, entrepreneurs and the business community.

“We are so excited to offer an event that combines education with entertainment,” Berghaus added. “The Information Scavenger Hunt is designed to make learning fun while fostering a sense of community and curiosity.”

People of all ages are invited to participate. Mark your calendars and join in the fun.
